How To Cook Ribs In The Oven

There are different types of ovens to cook in. Ovens all serve the same basic function but may operate in slightly different ways.
Dutch Oven A dutch oven is typically a large cast iron pot that has been used for cooking for centuries. It can be used to roast, boil, bake or stew meals such as beef, pasta, soup and even bread. Dutch ovens were primarily used over an open fire but now a day’s dutch ovens are made to be compatible with gas, electric or ceramic stove tops.
Prepare the ribs by removing the membrane from the underside of the rib cage. Add olive oil to lightly cover the bottom of the dutch oven. If desired, add chopped onions, peppers and 2 crushed garlic cloves to the oven and then add the ribs. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and any other spices desired. Cook covered for about an hour over medium heat. Add your favorite barbeque sauce and return to cook for another 15 minutes. Let the ribs cool before serving with your favorite vegetable.
If you are cooking ribs in a dutch oven over an open fire, make sure the coals or wood is white hot. Be sure the dutch oven sits evenly on the fire or the coals. That helps the heat to be evenly distributed on the bottom of the pan. An uneven fire will result in the ribs cooking unevenly. The result will not be a culinary success.
Prepare the ribs as you normally would for cooking on the stove. Put the dutch oven on the fire and, cook the ribs for about an hour and a half. Remove from heat and add barbeque sauce. Return to the fire and continue to cook for another 20 minutes. Serve over a bed of rice.
Conventional Oven Most people have a conventional oven in their homes. These types of appliances have a stove top, oven and broiler. The oven and broiler usually do not work at the same time but rather one or the other. The oven takes a few minutes to heat to the desired temperature and stays at that temperature until it is shut off. The temperature stays constant and heats evenly.
Prepare the ribs by removing the membrane from the underside of the rib cage. Season the ribs using the spices of your choice. It might be salt, pepper, garlic, paprika, or barbeque sauce. Add water to the bottom of a baking pan. The water will create steam and keep the ribs moist while cooking. Place the ribs in the pan and add cut up onions and peppers if desired. Place a tent of aluminum foil over the ribs. It should be tight enough to keep the moisture in but not so tight the steam produced will make it burst. Bake in a preheated 425 degree oven for about an hour. Remove the ribs from the oven, remove the aluminum foil and return the ribs to the oven for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Let the ribs cool before serving with rice.
