What’s a Convection Oven and what difference is there between a normal oven and a convection oven? In a Convection oven there is a fan at the back of the oven which circulates hot air inside the oven which apart from quickening the speed of cooking also helps to cook the meal evenly. There are several advantages in using a convection oven as against a conventional one. Let’s see what these are:
With the fan in the Convection oven circulating hot air round the food being cooked, the heat is directed towards the food which enables the food to be done sooner than normal. Furthermore, since the air is directed towards all areas of the food, this results in the food being cooked more evenly. As we all know, when we cook in a conventional oven, one of the problems we are usually faced with is that whatever food is kept on the lower rack cooks too fast or becomes over cooked whereas the food on the tray in the upper rack is almost always under cooked. When cooking in a convection oven however, regardless of the place in which the food is kept, it will cook evenly while the outside as well as the inside of the food will be done at the same rate. For instance, instead of the outside of the pie being burnt while the inside is still undone both areas will be perfectly cooked at the same time.
Another difference is that food can be cooked at a lower temperature in a Convection oven but at a faster speed. This has made it a very popular item in fast food restaurants although home makers are also now coming to know the advantages of the convection oven and switching to this type when its time to buy a new one.
To mention a few examples, if you are cooking chicken in a convection oven, the chicken will not only brown faster, but also retain its moist tenderness and it is the same for vegetables, pies, or cookies. Using a convection oven does not mean you have to change your recipes; all there is to be done is to adjust the temperature to a lower heat as stated in the chart that comes with the oven.
